John Farley serves up a cheese platter, while quoting key scenes from "Caddyshack"....A fine day at Teal Bend for the Big Game scramble. Thankfully, no one pulled a groin attempting to kick a FG. The revamped par 3 # 4 looked good, and the greens were pegging my stimpmeter.  Pictured..The Big Dog Mark Sheefel...me..Teal course super John Farley (Go Pack!)..Doug Thomas in Charger blue..and Dylan Swan. It's in da hole!!
Just off the 16th fairway at Timber Creek Golf Course, Sun City Roseville...a coupla "birdies" hang out. Looks like a snowy white egret & a grey heron to me. Not that I'm an ornithologist...but sometimes- I admit- I DO get kinda orni. --sorry, couldn't resist. Thanks to Mark Sheefel & MJ for the shot...And remember...spring isn't QUITE here yet.
When Kabuki hears 96.9 the Eagle--or ANY music, for that matter--she bobs her head...sways to the beat...& tries to sing along! She is a delightful 18 yr old blue & gold female macaw..looking for a good home--fairly quiet, she requests. Kabuki has a bit of a vocabulary, saying "cookie....hello... hey baby" ...Can you teach her some more?? This St Bernard competed in a coupla of the PetFest contests.."Best Shedder" (careful, now!)...and "Jiggliest Jowls." The jiggliest of all belonged to a beautiful Neopolitan Mastiff. Several hundred people came out last Saturday for a howlin' good time at the Placer SPCA in Roseville. Last I heard, 15 cats had found new homes that day, and several bunnies. See more furry critters looking for good homes at placerspca.org. Ya know, I bet that St Bernard eats as much as I do...

My family had a unique connection to Martin Luther King, Jr.--from the very beginning, and at the very end. My Uncle Paul was a free-lance photographer in Montgomery, Alabama in the mid 50's, and often was at the police station looking for a story. He was there when Rosa Parks was arrested in Dec 1955--but didn't take any photos, because he thought the story wouldn't be published!  MLK was a preacher in town at that time, and organized the infamous Montgomery bus boycott..one of the earliest civil rights actions. When King was arrested for civil disobedience in Feb 1956, Uncle Paul would NOT make the same mistake twice. He was at the police station when this "mug shot" of MLK was taken...and snapped his own photos at the scene. One shot was published in Life magazine the next week. For a while, my uncle became the "go-to" photographer in that area for the major magazines --until the KKK burned a cross in his yard. Fearing for the safety of his family, Paul stopped taking controversial photos, and opened a successful studio in Montgomery.    As for the end.....Dr King was in Memphis (my hometown) in April 1968 in support of the sanitation workers' strike. As you may know..MLK was assassinated April 4, 1968 at the Lorraine Motel. My father, a Memphis city policeman, was not on duty at the time, but in an unmarked radio car--less than a mile from the scene. In the mid 90's, my dad took me to the site, and recalled the tragedy to me. Many years have gone by...and tho we may NOT have made it all the way to the "promised land"--I feel our country HAS made some progress...and thru sad twists of fate, my family brushed VERY closely with one of the key players...MLK.
Mom always said to wear clean underwear...cuz you might get into an accident. Wonder what the mother of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab would say? Here's the "explosive underwear" of the *alleged* Christmas day terror bomber of Flt 253 to Detroit. BUT..ladies..just because a man cries out "I've got a weapon in my underwear!"..doesn't necessarily mean he's a terrorist..he just might be dateless & desperate.
Sully got his name BEFORE Capt "Sully" Sullenberger landed in the Hudson..but you could be HIS hero by providing a home for the holidays. Sully is a 1 yr old mixed dog, with lots of energy...maybe a perfect outdoor companion?? He should be the only pet in the home, with kids 12+. Find out more about Sully at placerspca.org.
He may have called it "the most ridiculous ting I eva hoid"--but Groucho Marx was an influence on rock. While his brother Chico was an accomplished pianist, and Harpo played--well, the HARP--Groucho was a life-long lover of the guitar. He never mastered the instrument, but did play a Gibson acoustic in the 1932 movie "Horsefeathers."    In his later years, Groucho was a good friend of Alice Cooper..they were photographed together for Rolling Stone. Two of Queen's albums--"Day at the Races", and "Night at the Opera"--were titles taken directly from Marx Brothers movie titles. Groucho and Elton John became friends in the early 70's in SoCal..and when Groucho pretended to shoot Elton with both his index fingers...Elton said.."Don't shoot me..I'm only the piano player."--which became the title for his just-recorded album.   Groucho passed away August 19, 1977--his death overshadowed by the passing of the King, Elvis, just 3 days prior. But Groucho leaves a legacy of comedy, an irreverent spirit --and props for your face that will forever be known as..Groucho glasses.
Steven Tyler...and Joan Rivers. Oh! Can we tawlk?! Whodo you think has a bigger scarf colllection--Joan, or Steven? NO truth to the rumors, tho, that Joan will be replacing Steven in Aerosmith. Or maybe we should check Joe Perry's latest Twitter?
