Is Watching the Winter Games Delayed Really a Bad Thing?

lindayvonn-200x150I keep hearing about people shouting from the rooftops about NBC's Olympic coverage. They say, "Why can't we watch Lindsey Vonn win the gold live?" "What about seeing Shawn White?" Sure, I suppose NBC could run it live on MSNBC during the day and then run highlights in primetime, but have you noticed? NBC's ratings are HUGE! You know why? Because we have to wait to see it in primetime! Most of us are busy during the day! NBC doesn't beat American Idol by accident. They win because we hear that Lindsey Vonn won the gold at 2pm, then decide to tune in that night to watch how she did it. Trust me, if she placed 10th, no one would be tuning in at 8pm. It's the fact that we have to wait, and want to see that incredible move by Shawn White that makes the difference. Vonn's night last night had a 22 share, which is unheard of in any sport. NBC, love it or hate it, is doing it right.

Nine Proposals Exist For New Kings Arena

Now that they are winning again, more offers are sprouting up for a new arena for the Kings, as now nine different proposals exist. Most are different offers at the same location. For example, there are two different offerings at the K Street Mall, and two at the Sacramento Rail yards. An existing taskforce will hold an open house on Jan. 14 so you can review all of these plans for yourself. It's not yet known where that may be held.

Tiger Woods Affair Shows People Need A Dictionary

The Tiger Woods alleged affairs and his crash are all anybody has been talking about. You may have heard that he made a statement about the whole ordeal. In his statement, he used the word "transgression," which apparently people don't know the definition for. That word or "Transgression definition" were two of the most searched items in Google today....and here we thought it was fairly common. Shows what we know. You can read the definition here if you'd like.

A Chat With 49ers Beat Writer Matt Barrows About The Rams/49ers Game

One of the best beat writers around is the Sacramento Bee's own Matt Barrows. Of course, he does excellent writing on the San Francisco 49ers. Below, Derek Moore and Barrows discuss where the team is at without Frank Gore, and who can we expect at quarterback for the Rams this week. Listen-mattbarrows-10-01-09

Our Buddy Walt Gray Stops By Our Video Room

waltgray-200x150KCRA 3 anchorman Walt Gray is a buddy of mine and Eagle Assistant Program Director Brian Lopez. If you could only hear some of the completely inappropriate remarks we make about people. Usually sports figures, sometimes at each other. It's guy talk. I know, we're stupid. Brian and I moonlight on our sister station ESPN 1320, and Walt frequently calls in to call our opinions insane, whether he actually believes it or not. We thought we would exact revenge by feeding Walt a really bad breakfast and making him come down to our 700 degree video room. We talk about many things. Enjoy.

NFL Preseason Schedule Starts Tonight

nfl-200x150The NFL preseason kicks off tonight, and I don't know about you, but I'm so starving for football, I'll watch-even though the studs won't play long. It actually opens up tonight with a very interesting game that we can't see locally. The Eagles vs. The Patriots. Also, the 49ers play tomorrow night in their opener against Denver at home. Will We Miss Tony Kornheiser?

mr_t-200x150So let me get this straight. We've had two broadcasters who are afraid to fly retire from the booth in the last three weeks? Is Mr. T a sportscaster? Oh good...pull his name out of the future retiree hat, although I would love to see Mr. T and Pat Summerall call a game together. Tony Kornheiser won't be a part of Monday Night Football anymore and instead will be replaced by Chucky, Jon Gruden, effective immediately. I want to see Gruden make that face when there's an incomplete pass. Maybe they can attach a sponsor to it. "Chucky's Incomplete Pass Face of Menace brought to you by Barbasol." You talk about ESPN stumbling upon dumb luck with Kornheiser's exit. Kornheiser's phobia equals ratings gold for MNF. Most of the country couldn't stand Kornheiser anyway.  Having Chucky come in gives the booth more entertainment, and more credibility than there has been since Dennis Miller...or anybody else.  Now if we could give "Jaws" a personality we would be all set. Maybe Mr. T can come by for a visit.
