This Saturday, April 16th marks the 68th anniversary of LSD. It was on this date that Swiss Chemist Dr. Albert Hofmann first synthesized the drug  in his lab when he was working for Sandoz  Pharmaceuticals. He was looking for the healing properties in certain fungus, when one thing lead to another and the next thing you know...LSD. Dr. Hofmann tried some of it himself, a very small amount. Almost immediately he knew things were changing, and he asked his assistant to take him home. They were both on bikes and Dr. Hoffman described the effects..
... affected by a remarkable restlessness, combined with a slight dizziness. At home I lay down and sank into a not unpleasant intoxicated-like condition, characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination. In a dreamlike state, with eyes closed (I found the daylight to be unpleasantly glaring), I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. After some two hours this condition faded away.[5] On behalf of the 60s, thanks Dr. Hoffman. Also Ken Kesey, Owsley and Tim Leary send their regards. Here is Dr. Hofmann. LSD voice over
