scalp200The Wall Street Journal has alleged that Van Halen colluded with scalpers to rake in an additional $1 million during the band's fall 2007 tour.  The financial newspaper reports that the band farmed out up to 500 premium seats - involving roughly 20 shows - to secondary ticket brokers.  More here.

Be careful accusing Van Halen in this scheme. The reporter claims that it was Irving Azoff that spearheaded the scheme, and that they used Van Halen tickets in their 'test phase.' But he only indirectly mentions Van Halen getting a portion of the proceeds from the scalped tickets. I know how reporters write; I used to be one. He couldn't find any evidence that the band KNEW what was going on, so he could only allude to it. He can't prove that the band had any knowledge of it, and it's quite possible that they didn't. Of course, it's also quite possible that they DID know, but let's wait until the investigators say that.
